MU Legend Philippines Webzen

There are lots of venues in Mu Legend for you to slice and dice your way to glory. Step into the Rift to take on foes in procedurally generated worlds or challenge the Endless Tower or Lupa’s Labyrinth and battle wave after wave of bloodthirsty hordes. Try your hand at PvP in 1v1, 5v5, and 10v10 contests, and join a guild to recruit more fighters to your cause. The battle is endless, but so are your options for destroying your enemies!

You can check the website here: http://mulegend.webzen.com/en/beta/teaser

Mu Legend Minimum System Requirements:
OS: WinXP SP3, Win7(32-bit) SP1 and above
Processor: Intel Quad Core / AMD Phenom II X4 and above
Memory Ram: 3GB
Hard Disk Space: At least 25GB of free Space
Video Card: Geforce 8800GT / Radeon HD4850 and above

MU Legend has had a long development path. Originally the game was called MU 2, and its development started way back in 2009. Based on Unreal Engine 3, MU Legend aims to bring one of the most popular global Action MMOs into the current generation of gaming. But can Webzen, who’s had a bit of a rough road replicating the success of MU Online, make lightning strike twice?

There’s a stigma in the West among the mainstream when it comes to Eastern-made F2P MMORPGs.  For whatever reason you point to, titles like MU Online, Lineage, Ragnarok, and the like have never been as big in the West as they are in their countries of origin.  One of the chief reasons I will personally point out when people ask me “why” is that the games rarely if ever seem as polished or sharp in terms of presentation and UI as their western contemporaries.

The same cannot be said of MU Legend. Even though it was made using the now outdated Unreal Engine 3, MU Legend is a very pretty Action MMORPG. And fans of the original game, or fans of ARPG style combat in general will likely be very pleased. As a friend on Twitter pointed out when I showed off some screens, the setup of the UI for MU Legend is very familiar. Even so, it’s done cleanly and with its own panache by Webzen.  The aesthetic isn’t something unique. Indeed, many a Korean MMOs seems to share the same art inspiration in much the same way Western fantasy games have orcs, dwarves, and a European Medieval aesthetic. You’ll be forgiven if you think MU Legend looks a lot like TERA, Devilian, and so forth. Even the upcoming Revelation Online, though made in China, shares a similar style.

Quests are handled in a familiar style, with decent localization.

There are five classes, and yes they are gender locked, I’m sorry to say. Though not preferable, I can at least happily report there’s no lolli class. The males get Dark Lord (think Tank), Blader (melee DPS), and the War Mage (ranged or melee caster). The females get Whisperer (ranger) and the Emphasizer (ranged DPS and control). For my part I’ve been dabbling with the War Mage, as the idea of a sword and grimoire wielding mage always gets my motor running.

The closed beta for MU Legend hasn’t been without issue. Namely it seems that Webzen was unaware just how many people would want to try the game, as the sole server on the US side seems completely overloaded. Oddly, though it can take 5-10 minutes for characters and NPCs to load in, once they do the game plays fine enough minus a few seconds UI lag for looting and changing options in the UI. That said, if you’d like to try the game in a more stable setting, I’d recommend waiting a day or two to see how things shake out. The beta runs until November 8th, after which all progress will be wiped before Open Beta.

Like Guardians of Ember, which I wrote about on Tuesday, MU Legend allows for a lot of customization in the progression of your character. While character creation is somewhat limited, you’ll level up in two different ways as you play allowing you to tweak the stats and playstyle of your character. Regular levels gain you new skills and allow the use of new gear, while Soul Levels get you SP and allow you to further customize a whole slew of stats from Spell Power to Movement Speed, Physical Defense, Magic Defense, and so forth. It seems Webzen’s not afraid to let you toy with your character’s stats – a refreshing thing in an ARPG in modern times.

The class, weapon, and expert skills in MU Legend.

There seems to be a load of content, though I’ve only managed to climb to level 7/6 so far (Level/Soul Level). The game’s experiencing a ton of server lag, and it’s frankly been unplayable into the evening, so I had to cut my session short a bit earlier than anticipated. That said, I did manage to stumble into the Interdimensional Rift – essentially a fully randomized dungeon that you can enter solo or in a group and the content within is scaled to your level. You can try it on higher difficulty levels to get better loot and XP and it looks like it can be done up to 10 times a day. Think of this as MU Legend’s “instant adventure” for those who don’t want to play the main story every time they log in.

The game’s combat is on point, but a little easy so far. I think I only had to heal myself once or twice. I assume, like any ARPG, that the difficulty will spike as you play more. I also find it nice that you get a battle pet for testing early on (mine is an adorable chibi headed skeleton). It’d be nice if we got mounts too, but unlike Ember I haven’t found travel to be too laborious in MU. There is no WASD control method though, as all movement is handled via the mouse, and skills are deployed with QWERT and the numbers are reserved for potions and the like.

The UI is sharp with a ton of functionality, even if it can’t be customized or moved around to suit your liking. There’s even a DPS/Heals tracker for dungeons to see who pulled their weight and who didn’t.  The game uses the familiar eastern Combat Power score to track how powerful you are, which I assume will come into play with PVP and higher level dungeons much like WoW’s Item Level. Speaking of PVP, while I know there’s 5v5, 10v10 matches they can’t be accessed until the later game at level 65. Unlike MU Online there doesn’t seem to be any PK-ing in MU Legend. That’s a good thing in my eyes, though I hope Guild Battles and Sieges may be planned for a later date.

This is going to sound like a cop out descriptor, but let’s tell it like it is: MU Legend seems a lot like a more refined or shinier version of Devilian at this early stage. And as my review of Devilian will tell you I greatly enjoyed my first several hours with that game… it’s when time wore on that I grew disenfranchised and found the game lacking in lasting appeal. Right now I can definitely say that MU Legend is a fun game to play, but whether or not it can hold my attention for weeks or months on end is something we’ll have to see when the Open Beta launches.

LEAGUES OF ANGELS 2 PHILIPPINES

First Impressions on League of Angels 2

Enhanced 3D graphics, core gameplay is strong, over 60 heroes to choose from
Content can become a grind, translations are poor sometimes, performance isn’t great for our region

First of all, we have to say that the game is pretty much no different to every other Asian style RPG out there. Even with LoA2 we are met with the same core gameplay of collecting heroes, levelling them up in various ways and upgrading them, then getting slowly more powerful to try out new PVE features or try to climb the PVP rank ladder; it’s nothing we haven’t seen in a score of other RPGs.

League of Angels 2 is a browser RPG where players assemble a group of heroes to vanquish evil from the land. Progress through 2D stages by defeating enemies, making your way from left to right across the world, and unlock new areas. Encounter heroes possessed by darkness, defeat them, and recruit them to your party to aid you on your journey. Automatic gameplay systems perform combat and leveling to allow players to progress passively. Watch your heroes unleash vivid attacks, destroying endless waves of enemies. Enter the arena and test your party against the computer or partner up to conquer multiplayer dungeons.

League of Angels 2 Key Features:

Automatic Gameplay - let the game undertake combat and leveling for you, allowing you obtain passive victories.

Colorful Attacks - watch your heroes unleash an array of colorful and smoothly animated attacks.

Collect Heroes - unlock new heroes by defeating them in combat and then purchase them in the Hero shop.

Arena - engage in single-player arena combat to test your might and earn diamonds and prestige.

Multiplayer Dungeons - team up with other players beginning at level 25 to sweep dungeons and earn exclusive rewards.

What we will say is that the graphics themselves are definitely worth taking note of, GTArcade have done an impressive job of adding 3D models and environments to the game and some very smooth animations for their characters; avoiding the clunky stuttering animations we see in other games. It is something that definitely stands the game out from the crowd, though the actual gameplay is essentially what we’ve already played. That isn’t to say there aren’t differences and tweaks between League of Angels 2 and its predecessor, or other games for that matter, it’s more a case of the fact that these titles are all generally so similar in concept, features and themes that the actual differences are so small and generally inconsequential that most casual players won’t notice them or they’re simply elements that only come into play in the late game.

The game focuses on combat and it’s here that the heart of the game stays the same; players acquire their new Angels by going through a rather uninteresting storyline littered with some dodgy translations, level them up and then add them into their Squad. Heroes can be placed in different positions and that is essentially the strategy of the game, trying to work out the synergy between characters and their skills because once you enter battle then everything is out of your hands and combat is automated. In PVE when the battle is progressing each character will build up a rage bar that when filled allows the player to manually trigger an ultimate skill that does lots of damage, mass heals, or some such, but that’s the only involvement we ever got and even then the early gameplay (and by early we mean the first 2 hours of content) was so easy we didn’t need to get involved at all.

The PVE quest content is linear, you fight each encounter in the same order as everyone else in the game, meaning you unlock access to the same Angels as everyone else in the game in the same order. This is most noticeable when you finally unlock the PVP Arena and can challenge other players only to see that, for the most part, they have exactly the same team as you. You do get to see both the targeted players rank before challenging them, as well as their Battle Rating (BR) which is the total score of how powerful their team is based on the level of their characters, gear, upgrades, and other stuff. This really makes PVP kind of pointless in the early levels because you’re fighting against players with the same Angels, but if they are higher BR than you then you know they have the same team only more powerful, which ultimately will result in defeat.

We tried this theory out by fighting a guy 3000 BR higher than us (just a few upgrades to his Angels) and as we jumped into the mirror battle with our Angels in exactly same position, making the same attacks after each other, it was pretty obvious that the system didn’t work that well at early levels as having no control all we could do was watch as they hit a little harder and healed a little more until they finally defeated us. Curious as to how much strategy could be employed we decided to move our characters around in their formations (instead of the default ones they’d been put into), noticing our melee DPS character was dropping quite early we switched them onto the backline. Surprisingly we managed to get some early damage and dropped two of their heroes, leaving behind their main character, their healer and their tank; with two characters down they couldn’t kill us, but their healing output was still high enough that we couldn’t drop the tougher characters. The battle went on for the full 25 rounds and, as we had killed two of their heroes and lost none, we did actually manage to beat a higher ranked/BR player with some strategy, so it looked more promising; albeit trying to challenge anyone higher than this was a very one sided ass kicking no matter how much we changed our characters around in their formations.

This was a little more promising for the strategy element, and with over 60 heroes to choose from we dare say the end game PVP might be a little more interesting; the problem is the absolute grind getting up there and going through the same content over and over getting the same resources to upgrade your characters. It’s not a fun journey. When you get to the end we’re not sure how fun it is either; once your reach rank 1 (as unlikely as it is) there’s not much else to do other than have to keep grinding to ensure your team stays stronger than any challengers.

Whilst the game isn’t different enough from other RPGs the concept that is in place is pretty solid and anyone who likes this genre should definitely take a look at League of Angels 2 for the graphical update alone. Though not without its issues, the poor performance when loading up background images being one of them, overall the game isn’t too bad and probably does stand above most of its competitors.

League of Legends Summoner's Rift Map Season 8 Update 2017

Original Size Scroll Down

GAMEPLAY UPDATES

Looking back, you’d think pre-season was just an annual jungle-changing ceremony. But this really is the best time to try out big game changes, and this year we’ve got… jungle changes. Fact is, we’ve been trying to figure out how to make the jungle interesting and meaningful all the way into the lategame for a long time. So, this season the jungle grows up, supports will find some new items, and we’ve got some minor changes to masteries to round it all out.

LIVING JUNGLE

These green goodies grow in specific areas on the Rift, offering worthwhile bonuses throughout the game.

BLAST CONE
Knocks away nearby units when destroyed. Use it to jump into your next jungle camp, or to escape an enemy that's chasing you.

SCRYER'S BLOOM
When destroyed, releases pollen across the map away from the attacker, revealing units on the way. Use it to scout for enemies!

HONEYFRUIT
When destroyed, spills healing fruit on the ground. Eat the fruit to keep your health and mana topped off as you roam the jungle.

JUNGLE
ADJUSTMENTS

With plants overlapping some (not all) Smite rewards, we’re streamlining things by removing Smite buffs (Smite will now heal you whenever you smite a large monster, no matter which one it is). We're also making some additional minor changes to camps to make each feel more distinct.

Blue Sentinel & Red Brambleback
Blue and Red buff have evicted the smaller monsters that lived in their camps. How lonely.

Raptors
There are now a total of six raptors to peck you to death.

Murk Wolves
...Actually, not much has changed here. Carry on!

Gromp
Gromp's poison is gone, but now he enrages at the start of the encounter. Get licked.

Krugs
Krugs now split into progressively smaller Krugs as you kill them. They're really quite persistent.

MASTERIES

The only really big mastery change hits the Resolve tree, but there are a bunch more adjustments in the works! Be sure to check the Patch Notes when pre-season drops for all the juicy details.
