As the game begins, the player is given the option to start a normal run or play on hardcore. Now as u might expect, normal is your standard game mode. If u die u respawn and continue killing that which killed you first. Hardcore on the other hand is a little bit tougher. If u were to die here, it’s really game over and you’ll have to restart with a new character. Luckily in Path of Exile your character gets transferred to the normal league. This is done so people get encouraged to at the very least try hardcore mode, as their character will still remain playable. It’s comparable to the Hardcore mode from Diablo 3, it even has its own stash and shops you can buy from.
Where’s my gold?!
Another neat thing what Grinding Gear Games has done is the removal of gold. Every single game that features a shop has gold nowadays. However, instead of gold the world of Wraeclast completely depends on a different kind of currency, the currency of scrolls and stones. Now these aren’t your average kind of items as they not only work as currency to buy items from the shops and from other players, but they also have the ability to change or upgrade the stats of equipment. This completely changes the way one would spend his money, as the question that rises most often is the item you’re planning to buy really that much better than if you were to upgrade your current one by using the same item. And that’s one of the hardest things to decide, simply because one has no way of knowing what the outcome would be if he were to use the item to upgrade his or her equipment. That powerful sword you use that has a big fire damage bonus, might get an even higher bonus. However, chances are that your bonus might get lower or completely disappear and u get a worthless stat instead. And because the drop rate of these items are completely random, it not only makes u think again before using the item, but it also keeps the ‘Gold Farmers’ mostly away.Skills, skills everywhere!

It’s safe to say that the currency is already something completely different than from what one might expect from these kind of games. However, it’s the skill system that’s even more unique. This game features two different kind of skills. You have your passive skills, the ones that you’ll be allowed to upgrade every time u level up. Your active skills on the other hand, are skills that you’ll either receive from quest rewards or from monster drops. Now what this means is that even though one might select the Ranger class, he’s capable of obtaining and using the active skills that the Marauder would get. The same is possible with the passive skills. Everyone uses the same passive skill tree, the only difference is everyone starts out at a different spot. Also, have I mentioned how huge the passive skill tree is? I dare to say it might even be the biggest skill tree in a game. To give u an idea, when you’ll reach the max level, you’ve spend a total of 120 points, divided over a total of 1350 nodes available.
So if u want to be the Ranger that can tank a bit like a Marauder then go ahead. Or the Templar that can summon the undead to fight by his side, it’s all possible.
The world’s greatest!
Going back to the leagues I mentioned earlier, Path of Exile features races on a daily basis. These races range from a 3-hour hardcore event to a 12 minute during ‘Turbo solo’ mode in which the player has 12 minutes to get as far as he can solo on hardcore mode…also, the monsters attack move and cast 60% faster.
It’s a fantastic way to have a form of competitive multiplayer in a game where it’s community is one of the most important things. And best of all, it’s accessible to anyone. Every time you participate in one of these events, complete objectives and stay alive during the race, the player is granted points. At the end of every season, every player will be given a special item. The more points one has, the better the rewards of course.
Pay or play to win?
Now as most F2P games have these days, Path of Exile also features a cash shop. But before you rage and shout how unfair it is for the people who don’t want to pay, I’ll tell u something about this cash shop. Almost everything you can buy in the shop is only for cosmetic purposes. Think of a changing the look of your weapon or helmet. You also have the ability to buy pets that just walk around with you, or buy a different look for your skills. The only thing that has impact on your game play are your bank slots, or stash as they are called in Path of Exile.
Every player starts with four stashes, with the ability to buy a new stash slot for three dollars. It’s annoying when you have multiple characters on one league as they all share the same stashes, which means that they’ll be filled up quite quickly. But to see it as something game breaking, or giving an incredible advantage over non paying players would go too far. As they could’ve just as well put all your character slots and the races behind a pay wall, which they didn’t.
Conclusion
All in all I have to say that I enjoy playing Path of Exile a lot. Not only do the amount of races keep me busy and entertained, but it’s also nice to have a top down RPG after Diablo 3 failed to mesmerize me. I’ve you’re looking for a game that’s closer to Diablo 2 then to Diablo 3, I’d say give it a shot.
Thank you so much for taking the time for you personally to share such a nice info. I definitely enjoying every little bit of it. It is a great website and nice share.
